The world is being invaded by Ghosts. It is your task to track down these ethereal entities and catch them before they can do any harm. Fortunately, you have your Android powered phone to help you in your quest. Now save the world and catch as many ghosts as you can!
Basic Game Info
SpecTrek is a game with many aspects, it is:
- an augmented reality ghost hunting game;
- a GPS navigation game;
- a role playing game;
- (last but not least) a fitness game.
And the whole is more than the sum of its parts!
Starting a Game
When you start the game, first select the time limit of the game. Short games will keep you busy walking or running from one ghost to another with no pauzes, ideal for short sprints and interval training, or for just getting to know the game. Longer games will make you travel some distance between two ghosts so you can use the game more like a long distance training assistant. When you first start playing we advise you to go to the center of an open field from where you can start hunting ghosts in all directions, and then start a Short Game. More advanced players can play in forests, in residential areas, or in rural areas where ghosts might be more difficult to reach.
After you have selected a time limit, the Game Control Screen will appear. From here you can start a game. During the game you can return to this screen to examine your progress. For now, just wait for a GPS fix en then press the "Start Game" button.
Playing the Game
The basic gameplay is simple: hold your phone flat to view the map. Use the map to locate ghosts and navigate the area to approach them.
Map View
Hold up your phone to open the camera view. The camera view allows you to scan and catch ghosts.
Camera View
The first time you make visual contact with a ghost that is in your Scan Range, scanning will start automatically. After scanning is complete, a distance indicator will be shown in the camera view.
The distance indicator in the camera view turns green when the ghost is close enough for you to catch. When you aim correctly, the reticle will turn green. Press the on-screen 'catch' button (or the trackball/DPAD-center) to try and catch the ghost.
Tip: Sometimes the compass of the G1 goes haywire. When this happens, your ghosts will be al over the place in the scanner. Just take your phone in your hand and make some figure-8 motions using just your wrist. This always seems to solve the problem.
Features
The game has many features for you to explore, including:
